MOUNTAIN CLIMBING

Cotopaxi's glaciated summit.

Snow- and ice-capped mountains beneath the equatorial sun!... this fact speaks for itself. Add to this the magic radiating from each mountain:

Chimborazo (6310 m):
The furthest point from the center of the earth (and thereby the highest mountain on our planet when measured from this point of view)...

Cotopaxi (5897 m):
The second-highest active volcano on the planet...

Cayambe (5790 m):
The mountain with the most massive glaciers of the earth's tropical zone, crossed by the equatorial line...

Cotopaxi crater.

Antisana (5704 m):
Three icy summits of the "Refuge of the Stars" and waves of immense glaciers gliding down towards the lush rainforests, only a mile away...

Altar (5404 m):
The most bizarre of the mountains, a huge caldera towered by several peaks, the "Crown of the Ecuadorian Andes"...

Of course, there many more peaks, but we shouldn´t describe them all here.

The peaks of the Antisana and Cotopaxi.

They are not easy climbs. All climbers on the white-capped Andes should have experience in glacier navigation and ice climbing techniques. We can offer glacier and climbing courses for beginners and novices that enable those with the time to acclimatize and train to reach the "big ones".

There is a big time-saving advantage characteristic of this "Country of the Short Distances" --by car you can usually arrive a short distance from the snow line enabling one to travel to -and climb- many different peaks in a relatively short time period. When planning your trip, remember to allow extra time to acclimatize to the altitudes reaching over 20,000 ft...
